Harmanpreet's leadership legacy is bigger than the trophy she won

There are easier ways to measure Harmanpreet Kaur's captaincy. You could count the wins, the 150-plus games as T20I captain, the records, the firsts, the milestones, the longevity, and all of it will make a neat stack of achievements to firmly place her among India's most significant captains. But none of those statistics quite explain the phenomenon that was Harmanpreet's leadership.

Growing up in the early 90s, Harmanpreet was laughed at by almost everyone she told about her desire to play cricket for India. But she refused to let her dreams be contained by societal norms of a small town tucked in Punjab's Moga district. Challenging the conventions came naturally to her.

In a way, that's what she inspired Indian women's cricket to do: be more confrontational and less apologetic.

And she did it imperfectly.
