Relegation Confirmed For Triangle And TelOne As Hardrock Fight Back To Strengthen Title Bid

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League relegation battle has claimed two more casualties, with Triangle United and TelOne losing their top-flight status after Saturday’s Matchday 32 action.

The pair join Manica Diamonds among the teams already condemned to relegation, leaving just one survival place still to be decided with two rounds of fixtures remaining.

TelOne’s fate was confirmed after they fell 3-2 to Agama in a crucial encounter between two sides battling to stay afloat. The defeat proved costly for TelOne, while Agama kept their own survival hopes alive by collecting three valuable points.

Triangle United’s relegation came despite a 2-0 home victory over Simba Bhora at Gibbo Stadium. The Sugar Boys did their part on the pitch, but the result was not enough to keep their survival hopes alive. They can no longer reach 33 points in their remaining matches, while Bulawayo Chiefs’ 1-0 win over Manica Diamonds further confirmed their fate.

Attention now turns to the remaining relegation spot, with the final two matchdays set to determine which club will join the three already relegated sides.

At the opposite end of the table, Hardrock took another significant step towards the championship with a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over MWOS.

The Punters looked set for victory after Arthur Banda and Nigel Makumbe put them two goals ahead. Hardrock, however, refused to surrender, with Gerald Takwara, Thubelihle Mavuso and Munashe Bamara finding the net to complete a remarkable turnaround.

The result took Hardrock to 69 points, eight ahead of second-placed Scottland, who have two games in hand. While that advantage puts the leaders in a strong position, Scottland’s outstanding fixtures leave the title race open.

Saturday’s results therefore delivered major developments at both ends of the table, confirming two more relegations while bringing Hardrock closer to a potential league triumph.
